Awakening Wisdom is a school culture approach to nurture social emotional well being for educators and for students . This approach supports HIDOE’s HĀ framework as well as any school’s SEL efforts. In the three-day Summer Intensive, educators will learn about the principles, values, and practices that transform classrooms and relationships to reflect the Four Rs of Awakening Wisdom: responsibility, respect, resourcefulness, and responsiveness. Classroom teachers will learn how to set up the Agreement System, a classroom management program where students take responsibility for their actions and learn from their mistakes in a climate of mutual respect to support academic learning and lessen bullying. Coaches will learn how to embed the communication skills of empathic listening and responsible, responsive speaking to create collaborative, trusting working relationships with teachers and administrators. They will also learn how to respond effectively to conflicts for mutually satisfying results. The workshop will take place on June 10, 11 & 12 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at Hanahau’oli School. A registration fee of $475 per person includes daily lunch, snacks, beverages, and a 1-hour follow-up online group meeting. Discounted rates are available to individuals and groups traveling from the neighbor islands.
