“Play is the work of the child.” – Maria Montessori
As adults, we are constantly using our brains to manage a lot of information simultaneously while avoiding distractions. Neuroscientists refer to these cognitive skills as executive function and self-regulation. These are the same capabilities our children need to be successful in school and in life. The early childhood years, when children’s brains are growing rapidly is a vital time for the development of executive function and self-regulation skills. These skills can be built through fun and creative playful learning activities. This workshop will inform parents about the importance of children’s play and how executive function and self-regulation skills can be enhanced and practiced through play.
This event is sponsored by Hui Hanahau'oli, who offers a number of Parent Enrichment activities to current families in the Hanahau'oli School community each year. Hui Hanahau’oli is extending their resources to parents in the greater community during this challenging and historic time, and invites you to join parents from near and far in a quest to empower children and families.
