Child Development,
Preserving Childhood,
& Early Childhood Education
Hanahau‘oli School’s early childhood and elementary curriculum is centered around the concept of “happy work”. The focus at Hanahau‘oli is on stages not ages, honoring the developmental pace of children and the way they learn. Learning in childhood is centered around play and the authentic questions and interests of children. Teachers encourage imagination, creativity, and discovery. Each child is seen as a unique individual and the school sees this as an asset. Growth during childhood is facilitated through self-reflection and enduring questions. Teachers listen, learn, and are attentive to children and use this knowledge to guide instruction and care for students.
