Ungrading is a growing movement to shift the focus from grades to feedback in the classroom. We know from decades of research and hundreds of studies that grades demotivate, stress, and harm students. Instead, we can create spaces that promote human flourishing and purpose-finding by breaking barriers to learning.
This session focuses on the what, why, & how of ungrading:
What: We’ll talk about what ungrading is and how it can be incorporated into any type of classroom, even in spaces that don’t support pure gradeless learning. We also talk about what it isn’t, including concepts such as standards-based grading.
Why: We will briefly examine the research and reasoning behind ungrading, exploring why this process is needed.
How: If we know better, how do we do better? We’ll ask you all what you’re looking for and present various case studies on how ungrading is used, as well as brainstorming ways to overcome challenges to the practice.
